Upcycling Commitment
Clothing shouldn't be discarded or blindly donated to organizations that take only 20-30% of what they receive from consumers, believing they're acting in good faith, donating their items for local second-use purposes.
The clothing that's not deemed good enough quality to be donated and resold locally ends up either “recycled,” downcycled, or packaged in bales and shipped worldwide, inevitably adding to textile landfills, where vast amounts of synthetic fibres are leeching chemicals into our natural resources.
My family and I have accumulated a large amount of textile consumption over the years (only a fraction of it is shown on the bottom). I will strive to upcycle and reconsturct as much of that textile as possible before I consider purchasing thrifted or new material for upcycling.
